WC-ARES Activation Status. WC‑ARES Leadership continues to closely monitor the fire situations within Washoe County. At this time, we have not been requested, and activation can only occur through Washoe County Emergency Management. At this point, we do not anticipate a near‑term activation. All county radio systems are functioning well, and our served agencies have not requested any additional communications support. If that changes, we will respond immediately.

If WC‑ARES is activated, our first step will be to gather details on the type of redundant communications support needed. Once that information is received, we will implement a Resource Net on the 147.180 repeater, followed by notifications sent via text, email, and radio. Our secondary/alternate repeater is 146.895 MHz (–) PL 100.0, TAC 4

We also want to acknowledge that some of our members are currently in affected areas or have been evacuated. They have informed me that they do not need assistance at this time but will reach out if their situation changes. Our thoughts and support are with them. Please remember family always comes first before WC‑ARES. If any of you are in an affected area and need assistance, please contact me or any member of WC‑ARES Leadership. We will help in any way we can or connect you with the appropriate resources. Washoe County Amateur Radio Emergency Service serves the regional Reno-Sparks-Incline Village area of Northern Nevada.

The Amateur Radio Emergency Service® (ARES) consists of licensed amateurs who have voluntarily registered their qualifications and equipment with their local ARES leadership for communications duty in the public service when disaster strikes.

Our mission is to develop and maintain the leadership and organizational structure necessary to provide radio communications support to Emergency Management, Public Safety, and other public service agencies during emergencies or other times when normal communications systems are overloaded or have failed.

Updated September Meeting Notice

Information for our September meeting will be sent out as soon as possible. We are currently finalizing the meeting details and location. This adjustment is necessary because the first weekend our usual meeting time falls on Labor Day weekend.

The second weekend is reserved for the Ham Swap, and the third weekend is scheduled for the SNARS Pancake Breakfast. Due to these events, we are selecting an alternate date and location that works best. More information will be shared as soon as plans are confirmed.

Our normal and regularly scheduled WC‑ARES Meetings and Training are held at the REOC, 5195 Spectrum Blvd., Reno, on the first Saturday of each month. The meeting begins at 10:00 AM. Click for Google Map location

The Northwest Nevada District ARES Net is every Thursday @ 7:30pm on the SNARS linked system.
