Davis Fire: 4,700+ acres, 0% contained; evacuations continue. During a news conference, fire crews said that St. James and Galena areas will remain evacuated. Fire crews are working around the clock to not only battle the massive blaze, but they're working to determine what sparked the Davis Fire on Saturday afternoon.
The wildland fire investigations can be some of the toughest to solve because you're typically working with such a large area. However, in this case, we already know the fire broke out at the Davis Creek Campground in Washoe Valley. A lot of people sent in photos and videos of the fire in its early stages and some of those pictures may help with this robust investigation. It's really going to be a matter of photos/videos and any eye witnesses pointing investigators to the original source of the fire.
If you have any photos or videos, you are urged to reach out to the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District at 775-326-6000. Gov. Joe Lombardo stopped by the incident command center at Galena High School to receive a briefing on the current state of the fire.

A big thank you to Q&D construction for supplying the water truck, water, and driver. Thank you to Dunseath Key Co. for persistent effort to find a water truck, to get the information disseminated to the public, and to continue efforts to support the local washoe valley community..
2024 Reno Air Show has finally come out
Washoe County ARES will be asking again for security volunteers. Just like we did for the Reno Air Races. A small note below from (RARA) Duane Meye
Good evening RARA security volunteers!!
I hope you all had a very Happy Thanksgiving!! And just like that Christmas is almost here!!!
Well, the long awaited announcement of the 2024 Reno Air Show has finally come out. It will take place October 4th through October 6th of 2024. It will include the Blue Angels and the Snowbirds!!!! Both of these will be performing next year. This will be the only opportunity to see the Snowbirds in the West next year. The only other opportunity to see the Snowbirds in the United States is at Oshkosh next year.
Each and every one of you were a critical component in ensuring a safe and secure event for the Air Races and will be a critical component in ensuring a safe and secure Air Show. I do not know any specifics at this point as it sounds like RARA just confirmed the attendance of the Blue’s and Snowbirds. Hopefully, planning will start soon as this will be a different event with different requirements.
The biggest planning for Security will be getting our security folks on board. Will each of you please return to work the event this year? You are so important to a successful event and I know I really can’t express my gratitude enough!!
I know it is not the same as the Air Races, and air shows are available throughout the Country, but this will be a rare event as it includes the Blue’s and Snowbirds, and will be an extremely important transition to a new location for the Races.
Thank you, and I hope you are all doing well!!

News From Nevada ARES Section Emergency Coordinator

12-12-2023
Thank you everyone for participating in the Nevada Section SET 2023. Overall the SET went very well. As with any exercise it identifies areas needing improvement, and what went well. Please add the areas needing additional training to your local training programs. I am very pleased with the activation of your membership on a 4 day weekend. With limited resources you successfully completed the mission. Job well done.
Communications across the state with DEM in Carson City was very successful using HF Voice, and Winlink. With the world situation as it is, it is not if there is a major failure of the power grid, but a question of when. Nevada Energy is cutting power to various areas of northern Nevada when high winds are predicted. This often impacts 1,000's of people, for a few hours to several days. It is imperative that we are ready to support our communities when called upon.
After the first of the year, we will plan a Winlink P2P test. Please maintain your equipment and backup power sources. Be prepared to take care of your family first and then your community.
Thank you for all you do.
Merry Christmas and a Great New Year
