Welcome to the Washoe County Amateur Radio Emergency Service!


The mission of the Washoe County Amateur Radio Emergency Service Inc.; hereunder referred to as WCARES Inc., is to develop and maintain the leadership and organizational structure necessary to provide amateur radio communication support to Emergency Management, Public Safety, and other public or private service agencies which provide relief services during emergencies or other times when normal communication systems are overloaded or have failed.

The corporation is organized exclusively for charitable, educational and scientific purpose as specified in section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, including for such purpose, the making of distributions to organizations that qualify as exempt organizations under Section 501 (C) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code; or the corresponding section(s) of any future Federal tax code.

The corporation exists to serve the general public, and not-for-profit, utilizing volunteer communication support. The Corporation serves in programs associated with the American Radio League Inc., hereafter referred to as the ARRL; both under the ARRL -Amateur Radio Emergency Service® and ARES® logos as registered trademarks of the ARRL and are used by their permission.

The corporation exists to serve government services, through amateur radio support, during times of Civil Emergency through activation of the Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Services®, hereafter referred to as RACES®, as a Northern and Sierra Nevada Regional Chapter, as prescribed in the Code of Federal Regulations (CRF) 47 Part 97.407.
