Impact to Lower Peavine During the Hawk Fire
The onset of the Hawk Fire, the Lower Peavine communications site was the first major infrastructure location to be affected. The fire caused direct damage to the facility, resulting in multiple repeaters going off the air. The neighboring Sierra Electronics commercial site also sustained impacts, affecting several critical systems. As a result, multiple services experienced outages, including:
VHF analog
UHF analog
900 MHz systems
P25 digital
Fusion System.
These disruptions affected both amateur and commercial communications across the region. A dedicated team of amateur radio operators is already preparing to assess the site. It will take some time to replace damaged equipment, and install new feed lines. Their work will help restore coverage, improve reliability, and ensure systems return to full operational status as quickly as possible.
As of today, 8/26/26, we now have our first look at some of the damage caused by the Hawk Fire at the Lower Peavine Repeater site.
A special thanks to Robert Plant (NV7D) for his time, effort, and ability to get up there and capture the photos. His work gives us our earliest visual confirmation of conditions at the site.
I’ll share the pictures below so you can see the extent of the impact — including the surrounding area near Sierra Electronics and the close‑up shots of the damaged power feed and underground feedline to our site.
